Live at the Sydney Opera House
Lighting the Sails: Audio Creatures is the masterwork of Brazilian electronic musician and composer Amon Tobin and Sydney creative Ash Bolland. Together the pair have reimagined sea creatures and extraordinary plantlife in an intersection of organic and mechanistic worlds.
Vivid LIVE, part of the annual festival of lights and music known as Vivid Sydney, is taking place this weekend. As in previous years, the event was launched with a mesmerizing video projection mapped onto the sails of Sydney's iconic Opera House. Titled "Audio Creatures," this year's projection was created by Ash Bolland sees the Opera House writhe and squirm to a soundtrack by Amon Tobin; at times the shells of the building crack open to reveal new life inside, at other moments, infestations crawl their way across from the building's edges.
“I just hope that people find it entertaining and they see some cool shapes and buzz out on it and enjoy it... I think it’s about showing that people can express themselves on buildings and architecture and be super creative, and hopefully it makes them look at it and think; ‘I can be super creative in my life as well."
Sydney Opera House, in partnership with Google, will stream two full matinee, back-to-back ISAM Live performances on a dedicated YouTube channel during Vivid LIVE, its annual ten day music event within Vivid Sydney (May 25 – June 11), the city’s annual festival of light, music and ideas.
